Pottery in Gainesville, Florida : my process
Located just east of Gainesville, Florida, solo clay artist Anita Lenas creates unique functional art pottery and sculpture through meticulous handcrafting and high-temperature firing. Every piece is designed and shaped using hand-building or pottery wheel throwing techniques. Then altered through manipulation of the wet clay, added elements (sprigs, handles, spouts, feet, rims, ect.) carving, added texture, embossing with natural elements from my garden or found objects of interest.
Surface design may include inlay or colored slip trailing, underglaze or layering glazes with wax resist. The work is dried slowly and first fired. The pot is then hand-painted with underglaze, layered multiple glazes and mature fired a second time in electric, gas/soda or wood fire kilns depending of the surface desired by the artist. These pots are food-safe and suitable for dishwasher, microwave, and oven use unless specifically labeled.
